What initially got your interested in Great Whites sharks?

It was all over when I saw JAWS on my 10th birthday in 1975!

How long have you been doing the Great White Shark Expeditions?

I did my first two white shark trips in Adelaide, Australia in the 90’s with legendary shark expert Rodney Fox, both times we saw no sharks at all. It was very upsetting after traveling so far! I now only dive with Great White Adventures, owned by good friend Lawrence Groth. We leave out of Ensenada and travel a lengthy 18 hours to Isla de Guadalupe, which is infested with white sharks of all sizes!

Do you have a most memorable experience from one of these trips?

They are all equally impressive. We get extremely excited when we see old shark friends show up such as Cal Ripfin, or Zapata! It’s nice to see the same sharks every year, knowing their personalities and that they are still alive and not been fished and killed.

Is there one coming up & whats the info for people who may be interested?

I have just a couple spots available on my 11th Expedition leaving Ensenada September 23 and returning September 27th if anyone is interested! It’s aboard a beautiful 120′ luxury live on vessel called the Solmar V. Price is $3,200. We are the only boat on the island allowed to still use chum in the water. We also have a deeper 40′ cage and a two man submarine! It’s pretty bad ass and a fair price to look God right in the face!

Anything else your working on? Photography, projects etc you want to promote or talk about?

Well since the death of the record industry, I’m concentrating more on commercials, print work, publishing books, documentaries and my very own line of white shark merchandise! It’ll be out soon! Please visit my website @ DEANKARR.COM

Sweet – to see smiling Sharks that seem so familiarly engaged with the photographer – as though
they’re meeting up with an old friend,
If this seems naive, so be it. The shark, so terribly maligned, (probably more than any other creature)
can’t hold a candle to we humans ,who revel in war and all forms of killing with an unbeatable and unstoppable lust, Calling the kettle black?
I think so.
