Roger Gastman has been involved in the arts since he was a 14-year-old graffiti writer in the Washington, D.C., area. since then, he has spent more than 15 years at the forefront of the street-culture and graffiti-art movements, helping them reach mainstream audiences. He has founded and published two of the most respected pop-culture magazines of the last decade—While You Were Sleeping and Swindle (co-publisher)—as well as more than a dozen highly sought-after art books. He has nurtured the careers of internationally recognized artists, produced films and commercials and helped a diverse list of multi-national automotive, beverage, food, footwear, fashion, cellular and gaming companies deliver their brand messages with authenticity and style.With deep roots in the worlds of graffiti and street art, Gastman is a trusted mediator between the underground art scenes and mainstream culture. He has facilitated the donation of graffiti artifacts to the corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. As a leading expert on the history of graffiti, Gastman has held educational speaking engagements at universities and major museums across the country.Through publishing houses Gingko press, thames & Hudson and Abrams, as well as his own imprint, R77, Gastman has produced internationally distributed, top-quality art books, monographs and private-label books that showcase all facets of street culture.

Gastman has produced city center murals for the advertising campaigns of multi-national brands. He has been a consultant on television commercials, films and video games, providing brands with access to works of world-class graffiti writers. in 2005,
Gastman was supervising producer and creative consultant for the feature-length graffiti documentary Infamy.

For over a decade, Gastman has nurtured the careers of artists, overseeing the maturation of underground art scenes into legitimate facets of contemporary society. He has been called a double agent. By remaining on the cutting-edge while respecting the history of street culture, Gastman and his team of media professionals continue to be trusted by artists and commercial clients alike to showcase work with authenticity and respect.

ABOUT CREATIVEMORNINGS (at night)

LosAngeles/CreativeMornings (at night) is a quarterly design lecture series following the format of our popular monthly morning events – except instead of coffee and breakfast we’ll be serving cocktails and beer.

CreativeMornings is a monthly morning gathering of creative types. Each event includes a 20 minute lecture, followed by a 20 minute group discussion. The gathering begins at 8:30am with the topic presentation starting at 9:00am and everyone taking off for work at 10am. CreativeMornings are free of charge! LosAngeles is now the third chapter and joins Zurich + NewYork/CreativeMornings.
